Seeing Your Own Brilliance – The (Almost) Impossible Task

I talked to a woman the other day who works for a small business agency. She helps people start their own businesses. What she told me was interesting. She said that most people weren’t struggling with writing a business plan or with dreaming up a smart marketing strategy. “What most of our clients struggle with is what to build their business around,” she told me.  ”They don’t know what they love doing. And our agency doesn’t know how to help them. Because, you can’t find what you love with a questionnaire or a test.

So true. I talk to people every day who don’t see their own beauty or understand their own brilliance. It’s a dilemma many people face and it’s not something you can solve with another intake.

Neither can you find it by raking your brain. Yet, that’s what we are all used to do. We are trained in solving problems by thinking up solutions. Unfortunately, in this case it won’t work. You can’t find your essence by thinking about it. You have to go deeper than that. You have to look into your heart. You have to listen for your inner most desires, for your personal mission.

This is easier said than done. How do you look into your heart? How do you find your personal mission, the very reason you are on this planet in the first place?

In this post, I want to give you a few tips on what you can do to better know yourself. As with most life mysteries, there is not a simple one size fits all answer to this. There are many ways to find out how you are brilliant.

One is to look into the mirror of your life. It will provide you with glimpses of your brilliance. Whatever you see in others is a part of yourself. The beauty and kindness you see in another person resonates with the beauty and kindness that’s within you. You would not recognize it otherwise. This is true for your life as well. Whatever your life presents you with is what you are creating.

Another way to see your brilliance is by looking into your body to find out what brings you alive. Pay attention to your vibration, to the things that light your fire, that make you glow from within, the stuff that makes you want to jump out of bed every morning with excitement. I call this finding out ‘what lights you up’ and I’ve written about it in many of my posts. It’s a very unique and effective way of finding your true nature.

Ask others for feedback. What do they see in you? Part of the reason you can’t see your own brilliance is that for you it’s completely normal. You are using it every day and don’t think it’s anything special. You may even believe that everyone else is just like you. It’s as if you are inside of a box with the instructions written on the outside of the package. You can’t see them while everyone else can.

These are a few of the things that you can do to discover your true essence. Become aware of your body, pay attention to the feedback life and the people in it are giving you and find out what brings you alive.

What did I miss? I’d love to hear from you what you have discovered in finding your unique talents.

As always, thank you for reading.
