We all get upset at times.
It pretty much is unavoidable.
What we do with our resentment, however, will make the difference between getting over it quickly or fanning the flames.
3 Simple Ways to Manage Negative Thoughts
Be Vigilant
Don’t believe the voices in your head. They might be telling you that you’ll never find true happiness, that the man of your dreams doesn’t exist, or that you won’t ever lose that extra weight. But, none of that is true. Thoughts can be extremely persuasive – so, be aware.
You have the power to control what you believe in. You are in charge of your happiness. Just because you have a bad day doesn’t mean your life is going down the drain. Gloomy days are temporary and so are negative emotions. Not getting caught up in them is the key to making them disappear.
Have an Outlet
Using your anger or frustration to fuel you is an effective way to clear your head of crap. Instead of dwelling on your emotions or entertaining your (very convincing) gloomy thoughts, find an activity that will distract you. Exercise your body, work on a project, go to the movies, organize your closet, clean your house. It will help you to forget what’s going on and might drive away your negative thoughts. My tip: resist the urge to bring them back later.
Give Your Feelings a Voice
If you have a hard time shaking negative emotions, write them down. Use a journal and jot down as much as you need to experience relief. Once you feel better, tear out the pages and burn them, bury them, or tear them up and trash them. This is a great way to get rid of mental pressures. Do it every time negativity overwhelms you.
Remember, thoughts are temporary. Your life isn’t taking a bad turn just because you are feeling down. Use these simple strategies to help you stay on top of the world and feel alive rather than being pulled into the muck.
